Wetangula to Uhuru: Exit the Political Arena By Emulating Moi,Kibaki

BUDALANGI, May 2026 -As political temperatures climb ahead of the 2027 General Elections, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has publicly called on former President Uhuru Kenyatta to withdraw from active politics and “fully embrace his esteemed role as a unifying statesman.”

Speaking to residents at Lunyofu Primary School in Budalang’i on Saturday, May 2nd, the Ford Kenya leader acknowledged Kenyatta’s legacy but expressed concern over his recent foray into the political fray.

Wetangula argued that the retired fourth Head of State is risking his reputation by remaining in the trenches. He urged Kenyatta to follow the “distinguished footsteps” of his predecessors, the late Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki.

“I express concern that his recent public statements, though significant, risk deepening divisions at a moment when our country stands in urgent need of cohesion, stability, and national unity,” Wetangula stated.

“They [Moi and Kibaki] exemplified the dignified tradition of statesmanship upon retirement. I therefore urge him to uphold this noble precedent.”

The Speaker’s remarks come as a direct response to recent comments by the Jubilee Party leader, who castigated President William Ruto’s administration for “reversing progress” and replacing successful programs with “untested experiments.”

The event in Budalang’i served as a platform for several Kenya Kwanza heavyweights to fire back political salvos with Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot warning the former president to desist from engagement, labeling him “bitter” over the 2022 election results.

They accused Uhuru of sponsoring anti-government dissenters to undermine the current regime. Despite the mounting pressure, Uhuru remains defiant.

With his Jubilee Party aligning with the United Alternative Government (UAG) opposition coalition, the former president has maintained that he is “not done yet” with politics.
