SEME, Kisumu, 2nd May 2026 –Interior Security and National Administration Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo has issued a clarion call to Kenyan youth to prioritise the acquisition of national identification cards and participate in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise.
Speaking at the burial of Mzee Eliud Nyikal, father to Seme MP James Nyikal at Ridore Primary School on Saturday, Dr Omollo expressed concern over the registration deficit in the region.
He noted that while the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) recorded 2.6 million new voters in Phase One of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration, significant gaps remain.
“Kisumu County didn’t do well, but there’s room for improvement. In Nyanza, there are one million ID card holders who are yet to register as voters,” Dr Omollo stated.
To facilitate easy access for this process, the PS highlighted a recent government directive aimed at removing financial barriers for citizens seeking documentation. He confirmed that Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has gazetted an extension on the waiver for both first-time ID applicants and those seeking replacements.
As the nation approaches the 2027, General Elections, Dr Omollo urged elected political leaders and aspirants to maintain decorum and foster national unity. He lauded Seme Constituency for its history of “exemplary leadership,” citing figures like Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o and Hon. Nyikal as benchmarks for political maturity.
The PS utilised the platform to advocate for President William Ruto’s re-election, describing the current administration’s agenda as “transformative” and “equalising.”
He credited the President with several key milestones, including in Education where he has recruited over 120,000 teachers to address the teacher-student ratio.

Significant strides in national security and the reduction of terrorism, he explained have been witnessed coupled with extensive infrastructure development of roads and modern markets across the country.
“The Head of State is changing the narrative across the country. We will re-elect President Ruto because he has delivered to all Kenyans,” Dr Omollo concluded.
The ceremony, attended by a host of local leaders and residents, served as a final farewell to Mzee Nyikal who lived beyond 100 years, whom Dr Omollo eulogised as a dedicated educator, mentor, and pillar of the community.
