KISUMU, June 12, 2026 — Hundreds of residents from Kisumu and its surrounding areas turned up for a free medical camp organized by Jofwambo Group Welfare in partnership with the Kenya Medical Education Trust (KMET), receiving vital health services including cervical cancer screening and health education.
The outreach brought together healthcare providers, community leaders and residents in a bid to improve access to healthcare for vulnerable populations who often struggle to afford treatment and medication.
Speaking during the event, KMET representative Lilian Odhiambo said the organization was providing cervical cancer screening services as part of efforts to promote early detection and prevention of one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in Kenya.
She emphasized the importance of regular screening, noting that early diagnosis significantly increases the chances of successful treatment and helps reduce mortality rates associated with cervical cancer.
The medical camp was praised by community members ,Jackline Odoyo resident and leaders who described it as a timely intervention for residents facing economic hardships and limited access to healthcare services.
Representative of the Office of Kisumu Woman Rep,Dadah lauded the partnership between the office and Jofwambo Group Welfare, saying the initiative aligns with efforts to enhance social protection and community well-being.
“Most of the beneficiaries here come from humble backgrounds and are unable to afford medicines and treatment. Such initiatives help bridge existing healthcare gaps and ensure that vulnerable members of society access essential medical services,” she said.
She further encouraged Jofwambo Group Welfare to expand similar outreach programs to other parts of Kisumu County, citing the positive impact free medical camps have on underserved communities.
The event also highlighted the critical role of the media in promoting community development. Participants commended journalists for informing the public about important issues and mobilizing residents to access services such as those offered during the medical camp.
Dadah described journalists as the backbone of communication and information dissemination, saying their work helps citizens make informed decisions and stay connected to developments affecting their lives.
“Without journalists, many people would not know what is happening around them. Through radio, television and other media platforms, they provide information that helps communities grow and develop,” she said.
She further echoed the sentiments, noting that journalists serve as a vital link between the public and decision-makers by providing timely and accurate information.
The medical camp forms part of ongoing efforts by Jofwambo Group Welfare and its partners to improve community health outcomes through preventive care, health education and access to essential medical services.
Residents,Jackline Odoyo who attended the outreach expressed gratitude for the free services, saying the initiative had enabled many people to access healthcare they would otherwise be unable to afford.
