Junior Starlets Narrowly Defeated By Young Indomitable Lionesses

Junior Starlets face an acid test in the 2nd return leg of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after losing 1-0 to Cameroon in a match played at Nyayo Stadium today.

In the 32nd minute, Tiara Melong jumped high to drill in a bullet header from a corner to score the solitary goal.

Earlier in the 20th minute, Starlets nearly levelled when Brenda Achieng’s sumptuous volley kissed the crossbar to the disappointment of the cheering home fans.

In the 2nd half, Mildred Cheche’s charges rued multiple missed chances.

Mitchel Waithera’s rebound strike was blocked by Cameroon goalie after Mwanakombo Bakari’s rasping shot had hit the crossbar.

In another encounter, Cameroon’s custodian reacted first to deny Waithera an equaliser even after being rounded by the player.

The Junior Starlets are buoyant they will upset the odds to win the 2nd leg tie.

It’s scheduled to be played on Friday 29 April at Stade Olembe in Cameroon.
