Organisation Empowers Youth Clubs To Grow Grassroot Football

The drive to nurture and develop youth football at the grassroots level continues to gain new momentum, as stakeholders exert more effort.

They are committed to not only uplifting talented youths but also engaging them in structured sports and mentorship programs.

At the heart of this course is Obure FAW Foundation, which, on Saturday,y, 19th April, launched an initiative geared towards transforming the lives of youth in Central Seme Ward-Seme Sub-County.

Through a close partnership with Mozzart Bet, the foundation has distributed sports kits and equipment to youth teams across Central Seme.

Armed with the essential resources, local youth are empowered to participate in organized competitions and sports leagues.

The Obure FAW Annual Tournament has officially been kicked off.

It’s sponsored by Hon Jecton Obure, aka FAW, and the Obure Foundation.

All registered teams in Central Seme Ward will benefit from balls and uniforms.

In yesterday’s event, the four teams which took part were Kombewa FC and Lieye FC (Boys), Kolenyo FC and Okode FC (Girls).

“It will be an ideal platform for showcasing talent and nurturing emerging football stars through to December 2025,” said Obure who doubles up as Mathare United FC CEO

The organisation’s broader vision is anchored on creating opportunities for young people in Central Seme to thrive on both national and international stages.

“We would like our youth to be meaningfully included in development efforts and give some glimmer of hope to some,” he added.

Obure urged local leaders across the region to rally behind youth-focused initiatives and collaborate in empowering the next generation.

“The youth can thrive through skills, talents, and entrepreneurial ventures, but only if we as leaders stand with them,” he emphasized.

Through the foundation, community-based sports can be harnessed as tools for both social change and economic empowerment.

Since its inception in 2022, the foundation has already impacted a significant number of youths in the ward and in other parts of the country.

One of the beneficiaries, Peter Ohoro, lauded the brilliant initiative, affirming that it would be vital to their development as upcoming footballers.

“I would like to urge fellow residents and political figures in Central Seme to work in unison to empower the youth for a brighter future,” he said.

Lieye FC defeated Kombewa FC while Kolenyo FC retained the bragging rights among the girls by pipping Okode FC.

“The December prizes up for grabs are
Sh.100,000 (1st place), Sh.75,000 (2ndplace), and Sh.50,000 for (3rd place) respectively.”
