Kisumu Central MP Hon.. Dr Joshua Opondo disbursed Sh39M for bursaries and scholarships to hundreds of secondary school students.
The disbursement by the Kisumu Central National Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) comes as a welcome relief to parents and guardians with humble backgrounds.
It will go a long way in cushioning them in their pursuit of educational excellence.
Speaking during the issuance of cheques and receipts to beneficiaries at the Kisumu Central NG-CDF offices on Monday, area Member of Parliament (MP) Joshua Odongo Oron said the exercise was conducted fairly and transparently.
“And I think this is probably the biggest allocation we have given to our local schools,” stated the first-term legislator.
Bishop Abiero, Kisumu Boys High School, and St. Ignatius Loyola Magadi, Oron, said, were among the schools to have reaped big from the allocation.
The MP said Sh4.9 million has been allocated for scholarships.
The least amount that the kitty disbursed to schools was Sh.88,000, while the highest was awarded Sh.1.2 million.
Some of the allocations to the beneficiaries include: Bishop Abiero Secondary School (Sh1.2M), Kisumu Boys High School (Sh1.6M), Lions High School (Sh1.9M), and Kisumu Girls High School (Sh334,000), respectively.
Other institutions like Joyland Special School received Sh88, 000, while Joel Omino got (Sh918, 000), Ken Obura (Sh920, 000), and Kisumu Day and Boarding Secondary School (Sh1, 084, 000).
Additional allocation went to St. Chrisostom Kudho (Sh1.4M), St. Joseph Kisumu (Sh32,000), St. Peter Nanga (Sh612,000), Xaverian (Sh1.2M), St. Ignatius Loyola Magadi (Sh1.9 M), and St. Teresa Girls (Sh172,000).
“Currently, we are writing cheques for boarding schools outside the constituency. The cheques worth Sh16 million will be issued in the next two weeks,” added Oron.
