Major Drug Bust: Police Arrest Four for Trading Sh12M Worth of Bhang in Ahero, Kisumu

ÀHERO TOWN, Kisumu, September 9th -In a significant crackdown on illegal drug activities, four suspects, including one woman and three young men, have been apprehended for allegedly selling bhang valued at Sh 12 million in Ahero, Kisumu County.

This operation comes as authorities intensify their efforts to dismantle drug networks in the region.

The arrests were made on Monday, September 8, 2025, during a coordinated effort by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies.

The authorities identified Ahero as a hotspot for drug-related activities and pledged to combat the persistent challenges posed by illegal narcotics in the area and beyond.

During the operation, law enforcement officers successfully seized a substantial quantity of bhang, estimated to be worth Ksh 12 million.

The authorities are focusing on dismantling the connections and networks among the dealers operating in the region as part of a broader strategy to combat the drug trade.

Mr. Hillary Toroitich, the Kisumu County police commander, acknowledged the crucial role played by the public in reporting these incidents. He urged community members to continue providing vital information to the police.

“When such activities occur in our community, it is the youths who suffer the consequences of drug addiction and criminal behaviour,” he remarked.

In his statement, Mr. Toroitich advised the youth to resist temptation and refrain from engaging in drug-related activities.

He sent a strong warning to those involved in drug trafficking, asserting that their time is running out and that law enforcement will take decisive action against anyone found participating in these illegal activities.

“The police are committed to reducing drug-related activities to ensure a safer society for all of us,” he added.

The suspects have been taken to Ahero police station for processing and are scheduled to appear in court today.
