Senator Orwoba vs UDA: A Matrix of Matiangi Tour and Party Allegiance

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has kicked out the Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba from the party over disloyalty allegations.

UDA’s Secretary General Hassan Omar confirmed that the Disciplinary Committee has dismissed Orwoba.

This follows the hearings conducted by the National Executive Committee (NEC) during a meeting held on Monday, May 19th.

“Under Article 29 of the UDA party constitution, and having exhaustively deliberated on the matters before it, the party’s Disciplinary Committee has resolved that Senator Gloria Orwoba be expelled from the membership of the UDA with immediate effect,” Omar stated.

He further stressed that: “Orwoba will no longer enjoy any privileges according to party members, nor is she authorised to represent, or act on behalf of the party in any capacity.”

Omar added that NEC also adopted and ratified the Disciplinary Committee decision.

The ruling party also disclosed that they have notified the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) of her dismissal.

UDA has swiftly replaced Orwoba with Ms.Consolata Wabwire Wakwabuli, who hails from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County.

Orwoba’s woes began when she was part of a delegation that welcomed former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Okengo Matiangi, into the country at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from the US.

Matiangi has declared his bid for the presidency in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

Recently, Senator Orwoba joined Matiangi’s homecoming tours of Nyamira and Kisii Counties.

Her political rapprochement with Matiangi is viewed by UDA’s rank and file as disloyalty and betrayal of the party.

“Hon. Gloria Orwoba cannot, therefore, continue playing for two political teams simultaneously,” Omar stated.
